Description

The CNS Team at Arbor Biotechnologies is looking for a Principal Scientist interested in functioning at the cross-section of technology and therapeutics. Our team is leveraging the strength of Arbor’s discovery capabilities to advance the challenging field of CNS therapeutics by utilizing induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology and patient-derived CNS cell types. Arbor is a highly collaborative environment, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with the discovery, computation, and protein engineering teams, as well as to continue to explore new techniques for your professional growth. This role is at the forefront of Arbor’s translational evolution and will be given an opportunity to solidify the understanding of our assets for internal and external therapeutic development. Key Responsibilities:

The Principal Scientist will have the opportunity to take on the critical and highly visible role of advancing our latest discoveries toward therapeutic application. The successful candidate will bring their experience with CNS disease modeling using 2D and/or 3D differentiation of patient-derived iPSC into CNS cell types, such as neurons, astrocytes, microglia, oligodendrocytes and combinations thereof.

  • Developing in vitro human CNS disease models (either 2D or 3D) using iPSC-derived from patients
  •  Identifying disease-relevant phenotypes from patient-derived CNS cell types and developing robust assays to assess them
  •  Validating Arbor’s gene-editing technology in these disease models to show successful and efficient gene-editing and reversal of disease-relevant phenotypes
  •  Interacting and collaborating with gene-editing technology development group, preclinical development group and delivery group to advance the gene-editing technology toward clinical application
  • Supervising an Associate Scientist colleague
  • Manage CROs, interpret and communicate data across functions, and predict timelines and deliverables to internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. degree in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, or relevant field with 6+ year of postdoctoral or industry experience.
  • Experience in optimizing 2D or 3D CNS cell-type (neurons, astrocytes and microglia) differentiation from iPSC
  • Experience with high content imaging is desirable
  •  Knowledge in the field of CNS diseases
  • Experience in developing assays to measure cellular responses to pathologic processes
  • Highly versatile and team-based mindset
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills are essential
