Job Description

Our Medical Affairs team advances patient care by engaging in scientific exchange with external medical experts and industry professionals ensuring the scientific value of our products is realized. We engage and train internal employees to ensure that they thoroughly comprehend the science behind the medicine and review further unmet medical needs to bolster collaboration and further differentiate our portfolio.

The core responsibility of the Director of strategic partnerships and Alignment will consist of the following primary activities:
  • Take a cross portfolio view, identifying key areas for synergy, ensuring consistency of approach across (6) tumor teams, field medical alignment directors (FMADs), and (6) scientific directors of medical affairs (SDMAs).
  • Align organizational driven priorities from a pan tumor perspective including identifying and addressing critical organization needs to ensure the execution of critical tactics.
  • Harmonize cross functionally, realizing the value of relationships with key cross functional stakeholders such as Global Medical and Scientific Affairs (GMSA) Partners (Oncology Therapeutic Area (TA), Scientific Affairs, GSC, GST, VPVM, USMA Ops) CORE, Human Health, our Research & Development Division Early and Late Clinical Development, GCTO (see below). Strengthening and bridging working relationships with above-mentioned partner cross functional. Leading and representing at key cross functional meetings.
  • Engages AVP and USMA Oncology executive leadership (US-Field EDs, FMADs, and USMA Ops) to develop appropriate strategies in line with company objectives and ensures successful execution in alignment with USMA.
  • Work closely with USMA and GMSA (where appropriate) Ops leads to ensure good alignment with our systems of record (Veeva, X-FLY, etc) across the Tumor Teams ensuring that execution is according to our strategic priorities.
  • Initiate workstreams (as needed) to consider ways of improving working practices within the USMA.
  • Aligns key business priorities, metrics, and impact across the (external) Alliance Partners for the associated tumor types.
  • Co-leads the USMA Oncology and GCTO clinical trial support collaboration which includes:
    • Ensures compliance of the field medical pan tumor trial support activities in alignment with field policy through the facilitation of aligned training and development of approved resources for the field medical teams.
    • Aligns key trial support related priorities and associated milestones as well as leads and represents in both USMA and GCTO owned committees (i.e. GCTO-USMA Oncology LT Forum, GCTO-USMA Oncology Core Team Meetings, GMSA-GCTO Working Group, etc)
    • Ensures operational processes and procedures executed related to partnership between USMA Oncology and GCTO Oncology
  • Focus on growth mindset
  • Single contributor who works within the matrix
  • Key standing member of the UMSA Oncology TA leadership team
  • Reports to AVP and Head UMSA Oncology


Qualifications

Education R equirement:
  • Bachelor's degree required; concentration in a scientific-related discipline strongly preferred.


Required Experience:
  • At least 1-2 years of working knowledge of the Oncology landscape.
  • Proven track record of working in roles with significant element of strategic alignment. Ability to work in a high-profile role with substantial interactions with senior management. Strong ability to work in an ambassadorial role with the ability to influence through the matrix
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources, time, and budget effectively for given projects; is business savvy and results oriented.
  • Well-developed and effective team facilitation and leadership skills; able to establish cooperative team environments.


Preferred Experience:
  • Advanced scientific degree (e.g., MS, PharmD, Ph.D.) preferred.
  • 3+ years of prior experience in oncology
  • Working knowledge of Medical Affairs.
  • Well-connected and networked within our Research & Development Division and our Compnay or has attributes that would allow establishment of such networks rapidly.
  • Proven ability to analyze, integrate, recommend, contribute to development of conceptual plans for, and lead implement of, strategic, process, and team improvement and change initiatives cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated situational leadership and creative problem solving within department and teams.
  • Able to understand project details, but keep overall "big picture" view of projects, priorities, and strategies
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Knows when and how to speak up and appropriately raise issues to team and to management. Keeps both team members, departmental colleagues (as appropriate), and management fully apprised of project / initiative status and issues.
